The Capital Dragon Boat Regatta Is Right Around The Corner

Washington DC Southwest Waterfront gets ready to host the big event

Dragon Boat RegattaMore than 2,000 years ago, dragon boat racing became tradition in honor of Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese diplomat and statesman. Today, dragon boat racing competitions are held all over the world to commemorate this time-honored tradition. On August 29, 2015, the Capital Dragon Boat Regatta, formerly known as National Harbor Dragon Boat Regatta, will continue the legacy.

The wide lanes and consistently deep water that make up the Washington Channel at Washington DC's Southwest Waterfront will provide ideal conditions for the race. The events calendar will consist of a variety of races, ranging from 500 meters to 3,500 meters, and teams of both experienced and inexperienced racers will have their shot at winning. Inexperienced dragon boat racers are welcome in teams of 20. Instructors will provide onsite training and instruction.

In addition to the exhilarating races, you can also enjoy the artist, retail and commercial vendor stands that will be set up along the Waterfront. You may also want to check out the selection of brews at the Regatta Beer Garden.

After the dragon boat racing in Washington DC has concluded, there is still plenty to explore on the Southwest Waterfront. This up and coming neighborhood has recently been undergoing some sizable community redevelopment projects, which have resulted in new restaurants, shops and entertainment venues awaiting your visit.

The Hilton Washington DC Rockville Hotel & Executive Meeting Center would like to welcome spectators and competitors of the boat races. For those looking to have some family fun in Washington DC, we offer several room packages, including the Instant Getaway Package, the AAA Family Fun Package and Military Family rates. It would be our privilege to provide you with the top quality, world-class service that you have come to expect from Hilton Hotels, so visit our website today.
