Autumn is an exciting time of year when the nights start turning cooler, the leaves start changing, and we all tend to let our ghoulish side show through as Halloween approaches. In honor of the season, Kennedy Center in Washington, DC has devised a frightfully entertaining concert: A "Sleepy Hollow"-een on October 25.

The concert revives the story of our fearful friend Ichabod Crane and his unearthly foe, the Headless Horseman in the timeless tale of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." National Symphony Orchestra Conductor Steven Reineke will lead you through this riveting retelling of the classic tale while entertaining the crowd with the creepy sounds of the season we have all come to love. The show isn't just great music; a narrator will walk you through the story, and the entire orchestra embodies the Halloween spirit with their ghoulish costumes and makeup. It's a show for all senses!

Music will include Saint Saint-Saëns's "Danse macabre," Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" and Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King." In addition, you'll be treated to a selection from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" and much more, all performed by some of the most talented musicians around. This Halloween's NSO family concert will be a spooktacular experience, so don't forget to wear your best costume and come early for some traditional trick-or-treating in the dazzling Haunted Hall Musical Instrument petting zoo.

Halloween Comes Early at Boo at the Zoo at the National Zoo

Visitors are heading to the National Zoo Washington DC to celebrate Halloween.

Your entire family can start celebrating Halloween a week early when they experience the popular Boo at the Zoo at the National Zoo event. This festive event, sponsored by Friends of the National Zoo, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23, through Sunday, October 25, 2015.

A variety of treats will be offered at more than 40 treat stations. Chocolate bars, apples, potato chips and pretzels are a few of the snacks that will be available. The restaurants at the zoo will be open during the event as well.

Five of the treat stations are dedicated to education. Learn about an amazing array of animals, including pandas, sloth bears and cheetahs. Children will be exposed to fun demonstrations that will teach them about the various animals housed at the zoo.

The Small Mammal House, the Bird House, the Reptile Discovery Center and the Kids' Farm are a few of the animal exhibits that will be open during the event. VIP packages include special tours of the Small Mammal House and the Reptile Discovery Center.

The pumpkin decorating competition will give everyone in your family a chance to display their artistic skills. If you like music, you'll be entertained by live bands and a DJ. Taste of DC 2015 Will Feature Over 50 Restaurants and More Than 10 Food Trucks!

Many of the weekend's festivities will take place on the Taste of DC Beer Garden Music Stage. Over 50 vendors at the beer garden will be serving 5-ounce tastings and 14-ounce pours; beverage tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the entrances and beverage ticket trailers. The beer garden will only accept beverage tickets, so plan in advance to enjoy the best craft brews in the DC area.

The Taste of DC Wine Walk will be similar to the Beer Garden as it will accept beverage tickets in exchange for dozens of quality area wines. A variety of 1-ounce tastings will be available in addition to 5-ounce glasses.

Above all, the Taste of DC is known for its exceptional food offerings. Hosted on DC's Restaurant Row, popular eateries will be offering special menus for festival patrons. Each restaurant will offer at least one tasting item available for a small price so that you can sample several stands in one sitting. Guests are encouraged to bring cash as not all restaurants will accept credit cards.

The American Diabetes Association is set to host a bike ride to through the Nation's Capital.

Three different routes are available for the Tour de Cure, giving you the choice to bike ride over 13, 33 or 50 miles. The goal is to have fun and promote diabetes awareness as you enjoy a truly monumental ride through the city.

The Nations Triathlon Combines Athleticism, Entertainment and Sightseeing

There is no marathon quite like the 10th Annual Events DC Nations Triathlon, which winds around monuments and memorials in Washington, D.C. Participants and spectators gather to support this race that benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society while enjoying the grandeur provided by running through historical landmarks. The triathlon on September 13 features two exciting events with the Olympic Race and the Sprint Race.

Nation's TriathlonThe West Potomac Park Washington DC is the site for the Olympic Distance triathlon as individuals will go for a 1.5-kilometer swim in the Potomac River, run 10 kilometers and bike 40 kilometers, all amid some of the Capital's greatest sights like the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. You could be among the first to witness the Sprint Distance triathlon as this event has only taken place once before and includes a 5-kilometer run, 26.5-kilometer bike course and an 800-meter swim.

There are many exciting events taking place as part of the Nations Triathlon Washington DC as different groups will be competing while participating in the triathlon or sprint. College students, federal government employees, uniformed service members and first responders will all be facing off in races within the larger events.

After cheering on the winner of the Nations Triathlon and supporting the LLS, head to the Finish Line Festival. This event promises to be entertaining even if you or a loved one are not racing as activities at this event include challenge tents, the award ceremony and a live band.
